Celebrate International Women’s Day by Sponsoring a Horticulture Peer

An opportunity to support peer attendance at Women in Horticulture Event

In celebration of International Women’s Day, and March being National Women’s History month, AmericanHort announces a Sponsor-A-Peer opportunity to sponsor attendance at the Women in Horticulture luncheon program taking place on Monday July 18 at Cultivate. The Women in Horticulture luncheon is a ticketed event available to all Cultivate’22 registered attendees.

“This will mark the second year for a Women in Horticulture luncheon program at Cultivate,” said Mary Beth Cowardin, vice president marketing and strategic engagement at AmericanHort. “We’re pleased with the strong interest this initiative has received and the opportunity to bring women in the green industry a resource for networking, support and inspiration.”

The launch of this Sponsor-A-Peer program will allow people to sponsor the attendance of others who may not be able to attend without financial support. “The Women in Horticulture program at Cultivate’21 was a wonderful program last year. I would love to see some young women who do not have the resources to have an opportunity to attend this luncheon, expand their network and hear an inspiring speaker,” said Bridge Behe, Horticulture marketing professor at Michigan State University, AmericanHort garden retail community connector member and a 2021 Women in Horticulture interview guest. “I am excited to sponsor the attendance of a young woman to attend this event.”

Jean Steel, an inspiring motivational speaker, happiness practitioner, and expert in wellness, will be the keynote speaker for this event. She will talk about how to deal effectively with change, find gratitude in everyday trials and how to manage stress and control how we react when life throws you a curve. “We are excited to be a second-year presenting sponsor of this program,” said Olivia Morgan, customer marketing manager for Syngenta Flowers. “Supporting this effort is important to our industry and complements our own company culture and Syngenta Women in Flowers Team (SWiFT) initiatives.”

Participating in the Sponsor-A-Peer program is as easy as applying or pledging online. Both sponsored participants and sponsors have until March 31 to sign up at www.AmericanHort.org/WIHPeerSponsor. Those wanting to be a sponsored participant provide information, and anyone wanting to sponsor a peer’s attendance make a pledge online. Sponsor recipients need to be registered for Cultivate to be eligible for sponsorship. Cultivate’22 general registration opens on March 15. More details on the program can be found online.

“The Sponsor-A-Peer program is a wonderful way to support one another and celebrate National Women’s History month,” said Natalie Carmolli, public relations specialist for Proven Winners® ColorChoice® shrubs at Spring Meadow Nursery in Grand Haven, MI. “Every day, our industry benefits from the myriad skills that women bring to the table. Sponsoring Women in Horticulture at Cultivate is a natural fit for us as we recognize and celebrate the many talented women who work at Spring Meadow, as well as our female customers, vendors, and industry professionals.”
