AmericanHort Donates Thousands of Plants to Support Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio

Columbus, Ohio – July 25, 2018 - The green industry’s leading trade association, AmericanHort, hosted Cultivate’18 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center July 14-17, 2018. As the premiere annual event for the entire horticulture industry, Cultivate’18 brought in over 10,000 visitors and included more than 650 national and international exhibitors who displayed the newest live plants and green industry materials at the show. This year Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio was a major recipient of plants and materials left as donations to AmericanHort after the event.

"Most of these plants and materials come to Columbus to stay, so we have thousands of items to donate back to our community after Cultivate every year,” said Terri Brown, AmericanHort’s director of marketing and member engagement. “Our industry believes in giving back and that’s why we’re proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio to offer our donations to support community improvement efforts.”

Donations ranged from plants, trees and shrubs to pots, shelving and decorative items. In addition, new varieties of flowers first unveiled at Cultivate’18 were part of the available donations.

Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio received plant and material donations which were sold at its Habitat Restore in Westerville. The plant sale was held at ReStore East on 3140 Westerville Road, Columbus, OH 43224 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21. Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio shared that the event resulted in over $8,200 in sales that will support their building fund.

"Habitat is proud to be able to partner with AmericanHort for this effort. The ReStore’s annual flower sale has become a destination for our customers. This year’s sale was one of our best ever thanks to our partnership with AmericanHort,” noted E.J. Thomas, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio.

Other community organizations, including The City of Columbus Recreation and Parks, Franklin Park Conservatory, Homeport, and PlaceMakes were recipients of the annual donation program which has been running for over 10 years.
